Why Do Writers Force Articles to Reach a Specific Word Count?

Do a quick google search for “how long should a blog post be?” and you’ll arrive at 10 articles on the front page that essentially all contradict each other.

You start out thinking that maybe 300 to 600 is the sweet spot. But the further down you scroll…

…the less confident you are in your assumption.

If you dig deeper into these articles, you’ll find that the answers range from 300 to 1,500 to 2,000+ words.

That’s kind of like searching for the target internal cooking temperature for chicken and finding answers that vary between 90 and 212 degrees F. How the fuck is that supposed to help anyone? Salmonella all around, please!

Except, hold on a minute, comparing article length and target cooking temps actually aren’t much alike at all. There IS a target cooking temp for chicken and it’s 165 F. That we can work with.
