What’s Your 0.0006% Moment Going to Be?

In 2015, the United States Parachute Association recorded 21 total deaths from skydiving accidents out of about 3.5 million dives. That means there’s roughly a 0.0006% chance of not making it to your celebratory lunch after you jump out of the plane.

That’s an extremely low percentage, but a non-zero number nonetheless.

“So you’re telling me there’s a chance!” — LLoyd Christmas

Though chances are (insanely) high that you’ll just end up having an awesome time skydiving, when you extrapolate out the chances of a low percentage occurrence happening over a lifetime (an almost infinite number of moments and actions), it’s not so crazy to think that sooner or later, a 0.0006% event will be realized.

Think things like:

  • Winning the lottery
  • Getting your big break
  • Being struck by lightning
  • Getting bit by a shark

These aren’t events you should ever plan for, nor should they necessarily prevent you from experiencing the thrills of life. For sure, it’s much better NOT to plan for these things and instead live an intentional life having fun and working towards your hopes and dreams.
