Trying Something New

Choosing to write less non-fiction and more fiction

Yo. Hi. What up.

For those of you who know me, I’ve published on Medium quite a bit. Almost all of my published work is non-fiction, with the vast majority being personal stories and somewhat self-helpy.

I’ve enjoyed writing and sharing stories here, but to be honest, I’m kind of bored. Everywhere I look I see the same recycled topics. The same polarizing headlines. I’ve read so many articles solely written by AI it’s not even funny (they’re relatively easy to spot, though it’s getting harder).

You know what I don’t see that often? Writing that justifies its existence as “art”. It’s there, just not shoved in our faces like everything else.

Art is beautiful, moving, unique. It’s personal. Medium is supposed to be the place where work like that shines. Instead, my feeds are populated by articles like this:

The algorithm is hard at work. It knows I want to be a better writer, and it thinks these pieces are most intriguing to me. But it’s wrong, and I’m stuck reading a new “X Reasons No One Is Reading Your Writing” article every week.
